Explore your roots

For this assignment, you'll write one web page about an artifact (a fabric, book, trophy, photograph, etc.) that helps answer at least one of these questions:

If you don't know how to answer these questions, talk to your family.

For an example, see this web page I made for myself.

You may bring the artifact to school and we will take a digital photo of it. Or, you may bring in a photo or find a photo of a similar object on the web. If you can't figure out what to use as an artifact, talk to me.

For this assignment I want to see you express yourself. Fancy web graphics aren't required. Focus on explaining what the artifact means to you.

RUBRIC 5 points 7 points 10 points
Artifact The artifact does not appear to be important to the student's culture or roots The artifact may relate to the student's culture or roots but the reader isn't sure how. The artifact clearly relates to the student's culture or roots.
Writing Quality Writing is low quality or hard to understand. Writing is clear and understandable but there are some obvious errors. Writing is of high quality and easy to understand.
Writing Quantity Just a few sentences. At least one good paragraph. Several good paragraphs.
Web Conventions No page title or missing alt text. Uncredited photos. At most two missing titles, alt text, or photo credits. The page has a title and all graphics have alt text and photo credits.
Grammar and spelling Many grammar and/or spelling errors. Some grammar and/or spelling errors. At most two grammar or spelling errors.
Web Design Page layout and color is not appealing or well thought out. Page looks OK. Page is attractive and well thought out.
